pride art
I am a member of the Arts Consortium of Carver County which is an arts nonprofit (501C3) organization. Carver county is southwest of the Twin Cities metro area in Minnesota.
During Pride month for the last few years we have hosted an art show with the theme of ‘rainbows’. Abstract, literal, photography, jewelry.. you name it.
The following pieces are my submissions from these shows.
Closet Doors is the first piece I created for our Pride shows.
People have seen a variety of things in it. Windows, books, but the initial response I got was doors —as in the closet doors in Monsters Inc. and that obvious reference fell in line for a Pride exhibit. No two are the same, they come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.
This entire piece is made with paper I cut from magazines. Different magazines react differently to the glue I used. Hence the wrinkles in some and the “weathered-looked” on others.

peaks and valleys
Art paper collage on canvas - 8x10 inches
We all have mountains to climb. Some are higher and harder to climb. Sometimes we plunge into a valley so deep we struggle to get out of it. We can all use some help on our journeys whether climbing out of that valley or making it over the summit.
around in circles

How is it possible that we are still going around in circles regarding anything that does not fit into a neat little box, ie. LGBTQ+.
be a diamond

Diamonds are unbreakable.
Diamonds represent clarity of thought, purpose and truth.
Diamonds are believed to aid in personal growth and transformation.
Diamonds are linked to a higher consciousness and purpose.
…. and they sparkle!
sticks and stones
Art paper collage on canvas - 8x10 inches
We all know the saying… Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. We also know that is not true. Sticks and stones may break bones or leave bruises, but those heal. Harsh words, negative words, angry words can cut deeper than any stone or stick and those cuts stay with us much longer than we might realize.
Remember to speak kindly.
building blocks

We need to keep build towards an equitable world.
These building blocks are irregular, not cookie cutter, and the colors are “off” from what you think of for a rainbow, but that’s the world.
Thank goodness for the differences in people and may we someday soon be respected for those differences.
